In the Fall of 2024 the Strategic Initiative Office launched the first Dual Credit partnership at Texas State University with San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District.

This initiative allows students in 11th and 12th grade at SMCISD to attend classes on the TXST campus and is intended to help close the opportunity gaps for students and clear a pathway to a successful college career.

Students at San Marcos Independent School District (SMCISD) who are interested in being part of the dual credit program through this partnership will need to contact Olivia Short, Assistant Principal, at the High School to determine course needs and placement.

Dual credit courses encourage further student achievement and improve student performance on college-level coursework. Dual credit programs are cost-effective, reduce degree time, and allow students to develop a college identity while still in high school.

Mission Statement

To further Texas State University’s mission of strengthening K-12 and college partnerships, it is our goal to expand the dual credit initiative to surrounding school districts that share in the vision to create and sustain supportive environments for high school students, providing a clear pathway to higher education.
